At this year's IAA in Hannover, BAIC FOTON did more than showcase its vehicles – it demonstrated complete technological independence and innovative strength. By exhibiting seven complete vehicles and six key independently developed components, the company confirmed its ability to manage the entire process – from battery design to the final assembly of intelligent trucks. This integrated approach to R&D (research and development) is a key element of FOTON's strategy to become a world-class leader in the commercial vehicle industry.
The vehicle range on display covered every segment: from heavy-duty trucks such as the GALAXUS R9 PHEV and CAVAN BEACON, through light commercial vehicles such as the eGALAXUS D3, to modern pickup models including the TUNLAND V9 PHEV. Particular attention was drawn to the components segment, where FOTON showcased its intelligent electronic control systems, electric drive axles and megawatt charging systems. Having proprietary technology in these key areas enables FOTON to rapidly adapt its products to the specific requirements of different global markets, particularly the stringent regulations of the European Union.
FOTON's future in Europe also includes a direct manufacturing presence. The company plans to establish a local technology centre that will focus on defining products according to the needs of European customers, while the start of local vehicle assembly in Europe is planned for 2028. This step will help ensure that every vehicle is fully compliant with EU standards while reducing logistics costs and the environmental footprint. Through its German subsidiary BROCK, FOTON is already developing connected vehicle operations, further strengthening its digital capabilities across the continent.
In addition to technology, FOTON emphasises the importance of building a sustainable ecosystem. This involves not only selling trucks but also providing energy replenishment solutions, after-sales services and vehicle lifecycle management. The company actively supports the "green transition" of the European transport industry by integrating regional resources and developing local talent. With an open and collaborative approach, BAIC FOTON continues to build an intelligent and sustainable logistics chain, contributing to the global goal of carbon neutrality through advanced Chinese expertise and innovation.
