IAA TRANSPORTATION 2026, held in Hannover, became the stage for one of the most significant moments in the modern history of the Chinese automotive industry. BAIC FOTON presented its complete product portfolio, demonstrating a shift from a traditional export model towards a comprehensive value-chain approach. This strategic transformation symbolises FOTON's evolution from a regional leader into a global powerhouse directly shaping the future of commercial transport.
The highlight of the press conference was a historic milestone – the official global delivery of FOTON's 13 millionth vehicle. The honour went to the FOTON GALAXUS 9, which had previously successfully completed rigorous real-world testing on the roads of Spain. Chang Rui, General Manager of BAIC Group and Chairman of BAIC FOTON, handed over the keys to the vehicle, officially marking the brand's entry into Europe's premium long-haul logistics segment. This milestone is more than just a number; it reflects decades of commitment to innovation and the growing global recognition of Chinese manufacturing expertise.
The company's strategy for the European market, presented by Liu Xuguang, Executive Vice President of BAIC FOTON, clearly defines its objectives through 2030. By then, FOTON plans for new-energy vehicles (NEVs) to account for as much as 50% of total sales, while international sales are expected to reach 40% of overall volume. Europe has been identified as a key hub for this growth. Guided by the principle “In Europe, for Europe”, FOTON is focusing on localisation in three key areas: adapting products to local requirements, developing an integrated ecosystem and building deep cooperation with local partners.
Localisation extends far beyond sales. FOTON has already established sales networks in nearly 20 European markets, with plans to cover all key countries across the continent by 2028. Logistics support is already in place – a regional spare parts centre in Germany and national warehouses in 17 countries, including the United Kingdom, France and Hungary, provide high-quality support for more than 300 service locations across Europe. This infrastructure gives European fleet operators confidence that FOTON is a long-term partner, ready to support their transition towards sustainable and intelligent transport.
