In a world where the decarbonisation of transport has become an imperative, BAIC FOTON unveiled a game-changing solution at the Hannover exhibition: CAVAN BEACON. This intelligent zero-emission heavy-duty truck is designed to meet the toughest challenges of long-haul logistics, combining advanced technology, exceptional energy efficiency and uncompromising driver comfort. Wu Zongtian, President of BAIC FOTON International, emphasised that CAVAN BEACON sets a new benchmark for premium electric and hydrogen-powered trucks.
One of the vehicle's most impressive features is its architecture. Built on a dedicated platform that supports both battery-electric and hydrogen fuel-cell powertrains, BEACON offers exceptional versatility. For operators facing the challenge of charging times, FOTON has implemented megawatt-level fast-charging technology (1.44 MW). This enables the battery to charge from 20% to 80% in just 18 minutes, a groundbreaking figure for trucks operating on medium- and long-haul routes. With a range of more than 600 km for the electric version and over 1,000 km for the hydrogen version, CAVAN BEACON virtually eliminates range anxiety.
Beyond its powertrain, the vehicle's intelligence is what truly sets it apart. Equipped with an ICA/HWP driver assistance system, the truck integrates 22 intelligent functions, including adaptive cruise control, lane centring and automatic lane changing. Tests show a system success rate of more than 99% in critical situations, while the platform is ready for an upgrade to Level 4 autonomous driving. Energy efficiency is further optimised by an ultra-low drag coefficient of 0.28, which, combined with predictive thermal management, reduces energy consumption by 15%.
The cabin interior is designed as a “mobile living space”. As long-haul drivers spend days in their vehicles, FOTON has introduced air-suspension seating and a four-point floating cab suspension system, reducing vibrations by 25%. The cabin features an AI voice assistant, a large 15.6-inch display and a 1,000 mm-wide bed, providing a level of comfort rarely found in the commercial vehicle segment. CAVAN BEACON is more than just a means of transport; it demonstrates that the sustainable future of transportation can be both technologically advanced and people-centred.
